This particular mission was flown by the brave airmen of the 387th Bomb Group. They flew without fighter escort, faced heavy anti-aircraft artillery, and despite grievous losses, pressed on and destroyed their target with pinpoint accuracy. Facing them in this combat were the staunch pilots of the Luftwaffes JG 11, who put up a vigorous and deadly defense over their homeland. On 16 December 1944, the Wehrmacht launched its greatest counter-offensive against its enemy in the west, making considerable progress with the aid of unfavorable flying weather for the Allies. It's great to see the B-26 Marauder in some art. A really under-appreciated bird in my opinion, especially after hearing stories about it from a friend who maintained one and an uncle who flew in one. It's one of my favorite aircraft subjects. This is a wonderfully done painting. I like how the burning engine lights up the area of the sky with the bright yellow.

Thank you Dave.
