Artist's Description
B-24D Liberator "JOISEY BOUNCE" of the 330th Bomb Squadron, 93rd Bomb Group was one of the survivors of the low-level raids on the oil fields of Romania on 1 August 1943. She was eventually lost over Bremen, Germany on 13 November 1943. Among her other brethren are "THUNDERMUG" of the 328th Bomb Squadron and "BOOMERANG", Also of the 328th. "BOOMERANG" had the distinction of being the first 8th Air Force Liberator flying from England to complete 50 combat missions. She also flew in support of the campaign in North Africa and was retired in April 1944, being sent back to the USA.
The B-24 Liberator was produced in greater quantities and flown in more theaters of war by the air forces of more countries than any other four-engine bomber in World War II. 19,256 planes (in several versions) were produced by Consolidated Vultee, Ford Motor Company, Douglas Aircraft and North American Aircraft between the years of 1939 and 1945. A fully armed and combat-ready B-24 carried a crew o...

MJ Cadle
My father, John R Cadle, was a B-24 pilot in the 93rd. He was shot down on February 26, 1945 on a bombing mission over Berlin. The plane made it to Poland where they all bailed out. They made it behind Russian lines. My father and his navigator were captured by the Russians and held prisoner for several months. He was written up in Ted's Traveling Circus about the 93rd Bomb Group.
